Five Brave Knights (Teasing Mr. Dragon)

5 Brave Knights (Teasing Mr. Dragon)

Five brave knights
On a castle wall
Teasing Mr. Dragon
“You can’t catch us all!
No, you can’t catch us all!”

Along flies Mr. Dragon
With a mighty call
Then snatched that knight
Right off the castle wall.

Four brave knights
On a castle wall
Teasing Mr. Dragon
“You can’t catch us all!
No, you can’t catch us all!”

Along flies Mr. Dragon
With a mighty call
Then snatched that knight
Right off the castle wall.

Three brave knights
On a castle wall
Teasing Mr. Dragon
“You can’t catch us all!
No, you can’t catch us all!”

Along flies Mr. Dragon
With a mighty call
Then snatched that knight
Right off the castle wall.

Two brave knights
On a castle wall
Teasing Mr. Dragon
“You can’t catch us all!
No, you can’t catch us all!”

Along flies Mr. Dragon
With a mighty call
Then snatched that knight
Right off the castle wall.

One brave knight
On a castle wall
Teasing Mr. Dragon
“You can’t catch us all!
No, you can’t catch us all!”

Along flies Mr. Dragon
With a mighty call
Then snatched that knight
Right off the castle wall.

My Book

May 27, 2021 by ajpassey Leave a Comment

My Book

This is my book; it will open wide
To show the pictures that are inside.
This is my ball, so big and round,
To toss in the air or roll on the ground.
Here’s my umbrella to keep me dry
When the raindrops fall from a cloudy sky.
This is my kitty; just hear her purr
When I pet her soft, warm fur.

Tails and Tales Nursery Rhymes

Tails and Tales nursery rhymes for storytimes

This year the theme for the summer reading program organized by Collaborative Sumer Library Program (CSLP) is Tails and Tales. I love the idea of combining animals and storytelling to bring a different level of interest and excitement to reading and early literacy activities. I’ve gathered some of my favorite Tails and Tales nursery rhymes to include in your next storytime.

Nursery Rhymes

  • A Cat Came Fiddling
  • Little Kitty
  • Pussy Cat and Queen
  • Hey Diddle Diddle
  • Old Mother Hubbard
  • The Hobby Horse
  • To Market, To Market
  • Horsey, Horsey
  • This Little Pig
  • 3 Blind Mice
  • Tommy Tittlemouse
  • Hickory Dickory Dock
  • Pop! Goes the Weasel
  • Little Bo Peep
  • Bunnies

Tails and Tales Nursery Rhymes Activities

If we ever feel comfortable post-COVID, a face painting party would be such a fun way to bring nursery rhymes to life for little ones. A fun idea to go along with 3 Blind Mice is to play “Pin the tail on the mouse” then kids can experience what it was like for those mice to scurry around the kitchen after the farmer’s wife. To gets lots of animals into an activity, create puppets for the animals in Hey Diddle Diddle and have little ones practice retelling the story.

A Cat Came Fiddling

April 2, 2020 by ajpassey Leave a Comment

A Cat Came Fiddling

A cat came fiddling out of the barn,
With a pair of bagpipes under her arm.
She could sing nothing but “Fiddle-de-dee,
The mouse has married the bumble-bee.”
Pipe, cat!
Dance, mouse!
We’ll have a wedding at our good house.

The Hobby Horse

April 2, 2020 by ajpassey Leave a Comment

The Hobby Horse

I had a little hobby horse,
And it was dapple gray.
Its head was made of pea-straw,
Its tail was made of hay.
I sold it to an old woman
For a copper groat;
And I’ll not sing my song again
Without another coat.

To Market, To Market

To Market, To Market

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig;
Home again, home again, jiggety jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety jog.

To market, to market, to buy a white caked;
Home again, home again, never was baked.
To market, to market to buy a plum bun;
Home again, home again, market is done!

Puppy dog, puppy dog, wag your tail.
Puppy dog, puppy dog, let out a wail.
Puppy dog, puppy dog, jump for a bone.

5 Little Kitty Cats

March 3, 2020 by ajpassey Leave a Comment

5 Little Kitty Cats

Five little kitty cats sleeping on the floor
One pounced away, and now there are four!

Four little kitty cats, cute as can be,
One leapt away, and now there are three!

Three little kitty cats, hunters through and through,
One caught a mouse, and now there are two!

Two little kitty cats, basking in the sun,
One slinked away, and now there’s only one!

One little kitty cat got up to stretch and yawn,
I looked away…and now he’s gone!

When Cows Get Up in the Morning

March 3, 2020 by ajpassey Leave a Comment

When Cows Get Up in the Morning

When cows get up in the morning,
They always say “Good Day!”
When cows get up in the morning,
They always say “Good Day!”
Moo, moo, moo, that’s how they say “Good Day!”
Moo, moo, moo, that’s how they say “Good Day!”

Cows can be replaced with a variety of animals:

When pigs get up in the morning,
They always say “Good Day!”
When pigs get up in the morning,
They always say “Good Day!”
Oink, oink, oink, that’s how they say “Good Day!”
Oink, oink, oink, that’s how they say “Good Day!”

When birds get up in the morning,
They always say “Good Day!”
When birds get up in the morning,
They always say “Good Day!”
Chirp, chirp, chirp, that’s how they say “Good Day!”
Chirp, chirp, chirp, that’s how they say “Good Day!”

Swing Your Dragon Tail

February 23, 2020 by ajpassey Leave a Comment

Swing Your Dragon Tail

Turn around once and swing your dragon tail.
Turn around twice, flap your wings and shake your scales.
Turn around three times, stomp your feet and roar.
Jump up high then sit down on the floor.
