Daffodil
Yellow, yellow daffodil, dancing in the sun.
Oh yellow, yellow daffodil, you tell me spring has come.
I can hear a blue bird sing, and hear a robin call.
But yellow, yellow daffodil, I love you most of all.

Do you know who the author of this poem is. I wrote a melody to go with this poem and would like to get permission to use it.

I have only used poems, rhymes, and fingerplays that are in the public domain, or ones I have written myself (these are noted on their posts). I would love to hear the melody who have written! It is a wonderful poem for spring.

I sang this song in 2nd grade. Not sure where i learned it. Parents moved a lot. When i was in 6th grade 1967 my 2nd grade teacher had me come and teach it to her class. The song always comes to me when I see yellow daffodils.

JoAnn, what a sweet memory. Thank you or sharing! I haven’t heard this as a song and would love to learn the melody. Do you know where I could hear it?

My children learned this in preschool in Houston, TX in the early 1980’s. They sang it while their teacher played the piano. Every time my daffodils bloom I think of this song.

I learned this as a song in school, as well! My cousin still remembers when we were swinging on my brother’s backyard swing, and I taught her that song. Fun memory. 🙂

I remember this song from pre-school so it’s origins have to predate the late 1940’s. I was reminded of the song when I purchased some minature daffodils in pots to hang on the wall outside my kitchen window. Yellow yellow daffodil, I still love you most of all.
