If Wishes Were Horses

April 2, 2020 by ajpassey 1 Comment

If Wishes Were Horses

If wishes were horses,
Beggars would ride.
If turnips were watches,
I’d wear one by my side.
And if “ifs” and “ands”
Were pots and pans,
There’d be no work for tinkers!

In the version I learned as a child, the last line is “There’d be no use for tinker’s hands.” Works better with the rhyme scheme, but still fun either way.
