The laptime program is a twenty-minute interactive experience between young children (0-2) with their caregivers and the laptime teller.
The basic goals of the laptime program are as follows:
- Create a positive experience for little ones with the library and with books
- Share the resources of the library with caregivers
- Give caregivers something to new to do with their little ones outside of the library
The main components of the laptime program:
Welcome—Warm up little ones to sing and move their bodies
Reading—Share one or two short books with the group, any more than that and little ones lose focus
Songs, Rhymes, Fingerplays—The majority of the time should be spent here sharing the rhythm of language and connecting language to movement and action
Good-bye—Wind down the program with a favorite good-bye or quiet song and invite participants to choose books to take home
