Red, orange, yellow
Then green, followed by blue
Indigo and violet
It’s a rainbow song for you
Snowball, Snowball
Snowball, Snowball
Flannel Board Hide and Seek Game
Snowball, snowball
Big and round
Behind which mitten
Can you be found?
To play the game:
Put each mitten on the flannel board one by one talking about the color of the mitten. For toddlers you can say the color and invited them to repeat it. For preschoolers you can ask them what the color is and then reinforce their learning by repeating the name of the color.
Once all the mittens have been placed on the flannel board, turn the board around and hide the snowball behind one of the mittens. As you are doing this you can explain how the game works. Turn the board around and say the chant. Have the children guess a color. Look behind the color. If the snowball is not there, have another child guess. If the snowball is there, cheer! You can turn the board around and hide it again. I have found that little ones enjoy this game 5-7 times or until all the colors have had a turn to hide the snowball.
This Little Train
This Little Train
(Tune: “This Old Man“)
This little train, painted black
It comes chugging down the track
With a “Choo-choo; Toot-toot”
Hear the whistle blow
This little train goes chugging home.
This little car painted blue
It has seats for me and you
With a “Choo-choo; Toot-toot”
Hear the whistle blow
This little train goes chugging home.
This little car painted yellow
It shimmies and shakes like a bowl of jello
With a “Choo-choo; Toot-toot”
Hear the whistle blow
This little train goes chugging home.
This little car, painted green
It’s the fanciest car you’ve seen,
With a “Choo-choo; Toot-toot”
Hear the whistle blow
This little train goes chugging home.
This little car; it is grey
It takes you places far away
With a “Choo-choo; Toot-toot”
Hear the whistle blow
This little train goes chugging home.
This caboose; it is red
It will take you home to bed
With a “Choo-choo; Toot-toot”
Hear the whistle blow
This little train goes chugging home.

6 Little Fireflies
Six Little Fireflies
Six little fireflies blinking in the night
Looking at the glow of each other’s light.
Whoosh went the wind.
And whistle went the breeze.
Then out went a red light
With a great big sneeze!
Aaaaaachoooooo!
Five little fireflies blinking in the night
Looking at the glow of each other’s light.
Whoosh went the wind.
And whistle went the breeze.
Then out went an orange light
With a great big sneeze!
Aaaaaachoooooo!
Four little fireflies blinking in the night
Looking at the glow of each other’s light.
Whoosh went the wind.
And whistle went the breeze.
Then out went a yellow light
With a great big sneeze!
Aaaaaachoooooo!
Three little fireflies blinking in the night
Looking at the glow of each other’s light.
Whoosh went the wind.
And whistle went the breeze.
Then out went a green light
With a great big sneeze!
Aaaaaachoooooo!
Two little fireflies blinking in the night
Looking at the glow of each other’s light.
Whoosh went the wind.
And whistle went the breeze.
Then out went a blue light
With a great big sneeze!
Aaaaaachoooooo!
One little firefly blinking in the night
Looking at the glow of his very own light.
Whoosh went the wind.
And whistle went the breeze.
Then out went his purple light
With a great big sneeze!
Aaaaaachoooooo!
Six little fireflies no longer blinking in the night
Flew off with each other in the pale moon light.

The rose is red
The violet’s blue
Sugar is sweet
And so are you.
Have You Ever Seen an Apple?
Have You Ever Seen an Apple?
(Tune: “Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?”)
Have you ever seen an apple, an apple, an apple,
Have you ever seen an apple that grows on a tree?
A red one, a yellow one, a red one, a yellow one.
Have you ever seen an apple that grows on a tree?
Color Butterflies
Color Butterflies
The first to come to the garden bed
Is a lovely butterfly of brilliant red.
Then in comes another and that makes two,
Fly right in, my friend of blue.
“The garden is fine, the best I’ve seen,”
Says the butterfly of spring time green.
Our garden needs a sunshiny fellow,
Fly in, butterfly with wings of yellow.
Little friend of purple, fly in too,
This garden is waiting for a color like you.
Orange, orange you’ve waited so long,
Fly right in where you belong.
Butterflies, butterflies you’re such a sight,
Flying in together-a summer delight!
